Att vara läkare i Homa Bay Kenya 2009

Loading the jeep for the 4th week in the "Green Hills of Africa".

Nice morning and we have just had the final lesson (5th) in the "snake school" by our teacher Philip. This due to snakes in our compound especially earlier in the rain season but also now we had a black mamba at the veranda the other week and Friday I saw a green mamba in the line. Mzungos are not very good detecting snakes!

Been out in the rural area with my friend sister Carolyne and learned about Kenyan agriculture and how to harvest maize and process it!

It is so much in this world you don’t know very much about - but it is always nice to learn (but not thaught perhaps)!

Today’s lunch.

Last time I was in Kenya I didn’t like Ugale very much - but now it’s much better, especially if you are hungry, as today, after 35 patients.

Resting after being at the market.

It’s like home on Saturdays; everybody is meeting anybody, bargain and haggling about the price of the vegetables.

We even had to pay parking fee for the jeep! Just as home! It is nice with a day of.

The heavy rains has come Nyanza province and everybody is happy.

Worse in rest of Kenya were the drought is hard. Now it’s only FWD that counts.

20 august

Baking Swedish muffins with recipe from the Swedish website ”Taste line” for our “Soda and farewell party” tomorrow.

Sweden is far away but also near in a strange way!

Home in Homa Bay again after weekend in the rainforest of Kakkamega.

The earth had about 14% of land covered by rainforest 1950. Now remains only 6%. It’s a shame!

The rainforests are so beautiful and with so many species of all kind. They are the lungs of the world and also make it rains all the time instead creating deserts

Lovely evening at the beach with lightning and thunder which could be enough for the entire continent of Africa.

Powerful & beautiful!

No overconsumption of fossil fuel in this part of the world. Total darkness! Not very much of electricity this week because of national power rationing due to lack of water in the rivers caused by settlings in the central forest Mau which delivers water - but not sufficiently anymore!

29 august

Back in Sweden after 6 week in Kenya with 10 kg less in bodyweight but with a heart filled with meetings and wonderful memories!

Letting the Swedish sun give my pale body some colour as the Kenyan sun come just from zenith and give you no suntan except if you are bald-headed or lay flat on the ground!
